During this tour you can see differences in Lithuanian and Prussian history, get acquainted with modern life in Kaliningrad region. We will visit amber mining and World Ocean Museum in Kaliningrad and see Curonian spit peninsula from both: Lithuanian and Kaliningrad parts.

Day1. Vilnius

Arrival to Vilnius. Optional airport transfer to your hotel in Vilnius. Overnight in Vilnius.


Day2. Vilnius and Trakai

Vilnius is known for more than 1.200 medieval buildings and 48 churches. Walking tour  includes visiting of the Old Town with Vilnius Cathedral, Gediminas Tower, St. Anne’s Church, Old University, the Gates of Dawn, Uzupis district which is known as the independent republic of Vilnius city. Time for lunch in Trakai. Lunch can be combined with optional kibin making culinary class. Trakai ir a historic, picturesque town with a castle in a middle of the lake. Locals take a day trip there and we invite you for one as well. See Trakai Castle, lakes and beautiful views around. Trakai used to be a medieval residence of Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Once a significant and powerful town, nowadays Trakai is enjoying tranquility and a status of summer resort with its only 5000 residents. The town is also famous for it's karaim community living here since 14th century who make "kibinai" the best local pastries in the area.

Day3. Vilnius-Kaunas-Kaliningrad

Early morning will start with a drive from Vilnius to Kaunas and a city tour there. Kaunas city, situated in the center of Lithuania, is famous for modernist interwar architecture, intriguing history and natural beauty. Kaunas will reveal to us how it felt to be in independent Lithuania between two World Wars, and how this vibrant city lives today. After brief visit to Kaunas you will continue going through a beautiful road by the river Nemunas that has a lot of castles and stop in Panemune Castle on the way. Following the biggest Lithuanian river Nemunas you will pass by it’s remote villages and towns which lay between the many rivers and channels. Visit to Panemune castle Time for lunch After lunch we will continue towards Lithuanian-Russian border. After crossing the border we will continue driving to Kaliningrad city.

Day4. Kaliningrad - Svetlogorsk - Yantarnij - Kaliningrad

Kaliningrad city tour in the morning. During the city tour you will be introduced to the seven centuries old history of Koenigsberg and modern Kalingrad. You will visit the old Cathedral with the great Immanuel Kant burried next to it and the main attractions of the westernmost city of Russia. This land has witnessed a number of great historical and political events, which made a significant impact on the present day world. The city tour will and at the World Ocean Museum which has been awarded with the Best Museum of Russia title. You can hardly find a museum like this. The only one in the country Embankment of the Historical fleet was established here. The largest scientific-research museum vessel "Vityaz", the unique museum submarine "B-413" aloat, a "Medium Fishing trawler - 129" and the only one in the world Space Communicatttion ship "Cosmonaut Victor Patsaev" with and exposition onboard are moored at the pier here.

Driving from Kaliningrad to Svetlogorsk and lunch time before the short tour of the town. Svetlogorsk is a popular Russian summer resort town. Development of Svetlogorsk as a resort and tourist center began in the middle of the XIX century. The visit of Prussian King Frederick William IV gave impetus to the arrangement of the coastal zone Rauschen (since 1946 - Svetlogorsk). The place became fashionable and gained reputation as popular climatic health resort. Have a relaxed evening in the town, walk on the beach or even dip in the Baltic sea. After relaxed visit to the coastal town we will visit Yantarnij Amber mine in the town with the same name. Yantarnij town is known for centuries long tradition of amber mining. The world's largest deposit of high quality Baltic amber (90% of world reserves) are located here. The spectacular view from the viewing platforms of amber quary is worth coming here. The age of the ''sunny stone" is about 50 million years and can boast more than 250 colors and shades. In Yantarnyj small village there is the one and only industrial excavation and processing of amber.

Day5. Kaliningrad - Curonian spit - Klaipeda

Today is dedicated for nature and stunningly beautiful Curonian spit peninsula. This 5000 year old UNESCO World Heritage Site is nestled between the Curonian Lagoon and Baltic Sea, and today is split between Lithuania and the Russian region of Kaliningrad. In the first half of the day you will explore Russian side of the Curonian lagoon. There you will visit definitely a mystic place called dancing forest - where all the tree trunks are curled and twisted and look like an oversized bonsai forest. Just before the border you will have a panoramic view from one of the tallest dunes in Europe - Epha height.  
After crossing the border into Lithuania you will visit Parnidis dune in Nida and black cormorant colony in Juodkrante.

Day6. Klaipeda - Hill of Crosses - Rundale - Riga

On the way to Riga we will make a few stops in Lithuanian and Latvian countryside. The Hill of Crosses is one of the most extraordinary sites in Lithuania. The old 14th century hillfort is covered in more than 100.000 crosses that symbolize Lithuanian nationalism and beliefs. Some of the crosses are devotional, while others are memorials to many people deported to Siberia. They vary greatly in size: a few are finely carved folk-art masterpieces and some are accompanied by mournful statues of the Virgin Mary. This is definitely a place where you will learn and better understand the local community’s difficult past, learn of its unshakable faith, and feel hope for the future. Later we will continue to Latvia and visit a Baroque Rundale Palace. The Magnificent Rundale palace was a summer residence of the Duke of Courland and now welcomes travellers from all over the world to admire it's wonderful garden and architecture. It is known as the most outstanding Baroque and Rococo art monument in nowadays Latvia. A Baroque palace cannot be imagined without the French garden, an elaborate architectural framework devised of green plantings that should manifest the triumph of art over nature. Both the palace and the garden were designed in the 16th century by an Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli.

Day7. Riga city tour

Breakfast at the hotel In Riga while meandering its narrow streets and ancient alleyways you will discover the must visit sites and some hidden corners. Founded in 1201 by the German bishop Albert, Riga is the largest of the three Baltic capitals and boasts a true kaleidoscope of various architectural styles. The walking tour of the Old Town includes Riga Castle, Dome Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, Swedish Gates, Three Brothers, Large and Small Guild House and the Freedom Monument. Day8. Gauja National Park Day Trip

Breakfast at the hotel Gauja national park tour starts in Sigulda a small medieval town in the valley of Gauja river. You will explore it's cultural sights and nature surrounding and get some breathaking views of the Gauja valley. During the trip you will also visit a Gutman’s cave – the largest in the Baltics sandstone cave which is also a geological protected monument. You will hear the medieval Latvian legend of the Rose of Turaida and see the ruins of the Turaida castle a former Livonian order settlement that is the most pictured monument of the area.
